Brothers
(in law) to clash as Australia Announce Quadrangular Team
Australia
have announced their team for the Quadrangular tournament
taking place at Bong Bong Race course, Boural, New South
Wales and in doing so have pitted former team mates and
relatives against each other.
YThe
Australian team includes brothers Will and Todd Weston,
who are, respectively, the brother in law and former team
mate of UK player Jason Webb. Jason was born in Australia
but after many years living in the UK he has finally received
his first call up to the National squad, ironically for
a Quadrangular Tournament back in the country of his birth.
His sister, Sandra, is married to Will Weston and both represented
Australia when Australia beat the UK in a series of four
test matches in the summer of 2008.
This
time Sandra is not in the Australia squad but Will brother's
Todd, who played alongside Jason at Kent Target Polocrosse
Club in 2007 when they won the A grade at the UKPA National
Championships, is. The other two men for Australia are Rob
Sibley (who again played aginst the UK in summer 2008) and
Chris Anderson. The ladies side are Suzette Thomas (Captain),
Jodie Tiver, Alison Mathie and Jess Jolly. Both Suzette
and Jodie represented Australia in the UK test matches in
Summer 2008 as well,
The
UK, who are presently ranked second in the world, would
seem to have a massive task on their hands if they are to
defeat Australia, who beat them convincingly in the summer,
with Will Weston (who is vice captain for the quadrangular
tournament) in particular doing a great deal of damage to
the UK.
The
UK squad has not changed majorly since then, with the only
two differences being Jason Webb coming in for Hamish Michael
and Beth Peaker coming in for Lucy Shell. However, they
will have learnt from their defeats and will go to Australia
wiser and better for it. Captain Guy Robertson said after
the summer tests that it was only by playing against the
very best could they improve their game and catch up with
the Australians, who are constantly playing at a very high
level due to standard of their domestic game.

national Championships in 2007, now they must met as foes...
The
Australian reserves are Mandy Smith, Leith Pryor, Skye Bradford,
Ben Thomas, Chris Robinson and Cameron Shepherd. The other
teams taking part in the Quadrangular tournament are South
Africa and New Zealand, who are presently ranked third and
fourth in the world.
