New
Polocrosse Centre to open in Cheshire
A riding centre
in Cheshire will become the first one in the county to offer
polocrosse. Mobberley riding school is working in conjunction
with Celyn Polocrosse Club and the UKPA to offer polocrosse
to more people. The Cheshire Polocrosse Centre is holding
its first polocrosse day on the 6th April.
Commenting on the new venture
on Horse and Hound online, riding school manager Sarah Diggle
said "We already have our own polocrosse team but we
want to offer the opportunity for more horse riders to enjoy
what is an exciting, fun, competitive horse sport at a grassroots
level. By basing the Cheshire Polocrosse Centre here we
will be filling a huge geographical hole in the sport's
growing national network. We really want people to come
and have a go which is what the open day is all about."
The addition of another riding
centre offering polocrosse is good news for the UKPA, who
recently annnounced two new riding centres in Yorkshire
and Lancashire who were working with them to promote the
sport.
UKPA Sport development officer
Iain Heaton said "It's great to see more and more riding
centres offering polocrosse, there are now quite a few around
the country. We have created a new dedicated page on the
UKPA website to help people find them and we want to work
with even more centres going forwards, recently we have
had interest from centres in Essex, Kent, County Durham
and Scotland."
"They have the facilities
that we need and we have the skills and knowledge that helps
them offer polocrosse to their riders. Nearly everyone who
tries polocrosse loves it and I think riding centres who
offer it can make money out of it, especially at the moment
when it is a fairly unique selling point. In fact I should
really quit this job and set up my own polocrosse centre...yes
that's what I'll do..." At this point he started laughing
madly and ran out of the room.
