Bad
Weather forces Welsh Dragons and Centaur to cancel joint
tournament
The
wet weather in the UK has forced the Welsh Dragons and Centaur
Polocrosse clubs to cancel their joint tournament, due to
run on the 1st and 2nd of August at Usk showground in South
Wales. This is a big blow for the Welsh Dragons in particular
and for UK polocrosse in general. Entries at this tournament
were expected to be high and it means there is just one
more normal tournament before the UK National Championships
at the end of August, that is the Midland Tournament on
the 8th and
9th of August. The Welsh Dragons will probably suffer financially
out of the cancellation as they will have to incur costs
such as site hire, despite the cancellation. The cancellation
also means UK clubs have few opportunities to decide on
their teams for the Nationals left.

Australia
and New Zealand to meet in Quadrangular Tournament Final
Australia
and New Zealand both booked their places in the Quadrangular
Tournament final at the Bong Bong racecourse in New South
Wales. New Zealand managed a 4 goal victory over the UK
to book their place and to gain revenge for the 2007 World
Cup semi final where the UK knocked them out. The pain was
doubled for the UK as if they had won they would have made
the final, thanks to the Australians giving South Africa
a 22 goal thrashing...Read

Scores
of Confusion at the Quadrangular Tournament
There seems
to be quite a bit of confusion about the exact scores happening
at the Quadrangular Tournament. The Polocrosse Association
of Australia have recorded on their website that the UK
lost to South Africa on day 1 by 18 goals to 15 but on the
Buradoo website, the host club, the score is stated as 18-13.
Also both these websites state that the UK lost to Australia
by 21 goals to 13, however we have now heard from 4 separate
UK players that they only lost by 6 goals. When we find
out the truth we will let you know! Lets hope someone knows
because if the UK beat New Zealand and Australia beat South
Africa it all comes down to goal difference!
Official
Apology
We incorrectly
stated that New Zealand lost to Australia by 15 goals, we
have since discovered it was only 14 as they went down by
25 goals to 11. We would like to apologise to New Zealand
for underestimating you, the New Zealand fans for causing
them slightly more pain than was necessary and to the Australian
fans for getting you slightly more excited than you deserved
to be. To all of you, sorry!

Driving Announcement threatens to make polocrosse in the

An about turn
by VOSA (the Vehicle Operator Services Agency) within the
UK could make it even harder for polocrosse players to get

regulations restricting driving hours would affect people
who drive private horseboxes over 7.5 tonnes. The regulations,
which were bought in 2006, mean that drivers of large horseboxes
have to take weekly rest periods of either 24 and 45 hours
from work after they have completed six daily periods of
work in order to drive within the law...Read

"Sausage

A pony with
short legs and a long body has caused numerous people to
call the emergency services in the mistaken belief she is

Southampton. An animal
rescue expert said Mayflower seemed to be a cross between
a Shetland and a New Forest pony, making her look like a

Hartpury College study investigates injury types in polocrosse
ponies
A new study is looking at
the type and prevalence of injury in the polocrosse pony.
Hartpury college student Megan Hibberd is investigating
the matter as part of her degree. She said that "Currently
there is a severe lack of research into the sport of polocrosse,
something which needs to be addressed if the sport is to
progress and expand. This information could enable preventative
measures to be employed, regarding management, fitness and
training programmes used within the sport of polocrosse."
In order to research this matter she has produced a questionaire
for people to complete and return to her. Megan said, "
This research can only be carried out with the help of polocrosse
players from all over the world, so please if you can find
the time to complete it then I, and your polocrosse ponies,
will be very grateful".

First
ever chairman of the IPC dies
Max
Walters, the former chairman of both the International Polocrosse
Council [IPC] and the Australian Polocrosse Association,
passed away on the morning of the 23rd November. He had
been suffering from cancer for a while, and in fact discharged
himself from hospital in order to attend the World Cup in

Max was very much the 'Grandfather' of Polocrosse, and had
been Chairman of the Australian Polocrosse Association for
many years, before Peter Crawford took over. Max was also
the first Chairman of the IPC, and held that position for
many years.
He has been a great supporter of UK Polocrosse over the
years. The UK polocrosse association and the Polocrosse
community internationally have lost a great and dear friend.
