Official Apology

Polocrosse Extreme would like to apology for any confusion it caused by incorrectly stating, in the round up of the UKPA Annual awards, that the main league award went to Pennine. It was actually awarded to Arden, who just beat Pennine when the final positions were worked out (by us so we really should have known). However, we are strangely proud of the fact that we were so convincing that we managed to get the wrong result put onto the UKPA site as well! Sorry Arden, sorry Pennine, sorry UKPA!

Kent make hay while the sun shines on the Midland Tournament

It was Kent's weekend at the Midland Tournament on the 8th and 9th of August, as the sun baked down on Arden's club grounds. There had been worries about rain stopping play but on the two days of the tournament the sun came out in force. The pitches were still fairly wet when play started on the Saturday and they quickly cut up. This factor, combined with the long grass on a couple of the pitches, made picking up and bouncing hard and players had to fight the pitches, as well as their opponents, all weekend...Read more

Entries up 30% for UK Pony club polocrosse championships

The UK Pony Club Polocrosse Championships will take place next weekend, the 15th and 16th of August, at Draycott House in Nottinghamshire and the organisers are reporting a big jump in entries. The entry figure stands at just under 100 players, an increase of 30% on last year and the second year in a row that entry figures have increased. The Pony Club have offered subsidised polocrosse starter kits in the last two years, with the help of the Worshipful Company of Lorriners, and many of the new entries are from the pony club branches and centres who purchased these kits. Entries are up across all classes and age groups and shows that the pony club and UKPA joint work to increase particpation in the sport is beginning to bear fruit.

Greenough Polocrosse Tournament - July 25th & 26th 2009
Report by Jodi Tiver

The Greenough Polocrosse Club held their annual tournament on a beautiful weekend in July after a little scare they might have to cancel due the large amounts of rain that had fallen recently. This was only a concern as the Northern Zone Championships and first National Selection tournament will also be held at this venue in 8 weeks time. But with plenty of sunshine during the week leading up the grounds turned out to be picture perfect with plenty of good green coverage....Read more

Bad Weather forces Welsh Dragons and Centaur to cancel joint tournament

The wet weather in the UK has forced the Welsh Dragons and Centaur Polocrosse clubs to cancel their joint tournament, due to run on the 1st and 2nd of August at Usk showground in South Wales. This is a big blow for the Welsh Dragons in particular and for UK polocrosse in general. Entries at this tournament were expected to be high and it means there is just one more normal tournament before the UK National Championships at the end of August, that is the Midland Tournament on the 8th and 9th of August. The Welsh Dragons will probably suffer financially out of the cancellation as they will have to incur costs such as site hire, despite the cancellation. The cancellation also means UK clubs have few opportunities to decide on their teams for the Nationals left.

Your Horse warns UK Polocrosse players to carry horse passports at all times

Your Horse magazine has warned the polocrosse community in the UK to carry their horse passports at all times when transporting their horses, as DEFRA are presently carrying out spot checks and handing out fines for people who don't have them on their person. Imogen Johnson of Your Horse Magazine said, "DEFRA lately had been pulling over horse lorries and issuing on the spot fines if the horses didn't all have valid passports and also if children were sat in the back of the horse lorries and not wearing seatbelts. They were recently waiting near pony club camps in order to catch a high number of people in one go".

South Africa's young guns defeat the UK on their home soil

South Africa's decision to take their youngsters to the UK rather than rely on experience paid dividends as their teams won three out of the four test matches. The UK will be disappointed that they did not do better on their home soil, and probably in the case of the ladies they should have done, but little can be taken away from a South African side which only featured 3 players over 20 years of age and featured one player making their international debut at the age of 15...Read more

UK claim European Challenge as Polocrosse looks stronger than ever in Europe

The European Challenge took place at the Northern Racing College on the 4th and 5th of July and to welcome the Europeans the sun decided to beat down on Bawtry for the whole of the weekend. Scores of Confusion at the Quadrangular Tournament

There seems to be quite a bit of confusion about the exact scores happening at the Quadrangular Tournament. The Polocrosse Association of Australia have recorded on their website that the UK lost to South Africa on day 1 by 18 goals to 15 but on the Buradoo website, the host club, the score is stated as 18-13. Also both these websites state that the UK lost to Australia by 21 goals to 13, however we have now heard from 4 separate UK players that they only lost by 6 goals. When we find out the truth we will let you know! Lets hope someone knows because if the UK beat New Zealand and Australia beat South Africa it all comes down to goal difference!

Official Apology
