The UKPA AGM

The UKPA AGM is is to be held on the 24th of November 2007 at the traditional location of the memorial hall in Henley-in-Arden. Here the elections for the executive positions will be held and this year there are a large number of posts up for election. Here we take you through the positions, the present incumbents and what they entail.

This year the UKPA exec have said that they think it would be quite good if people running for the positions could write a short piece as to why they are standing and these can be put up on the UKPA wesbite and this website so that people can read them before they go to the AGM. So get writing! Email your piece to either Caroline Kelly on cazzypolox@hotmail.com or us on polo-x-treme@hotmail.com

Duties and responsibilities of the executive roles, as it appears in the UKPA yearbook

AGM Documents: Notification of the AGM,, Squad Manager Application,, Squad Coach application,, AGM Minutes November 2006

Nomination document for the UKPA Officers at the AGM

Chairman:

The former chairman Dave Brookes resigned shortly before Nationals this year over penning and insurance issues but his position was up for re election this year, therefore it is a 2 year position, and he had indicated that he might not run again. At present the UKPA vice chairman, Eric Jenkinson, is holding the fort but it seems unlikely that he will throw his hat into the ring for the position full time, as he still has a year to run on his vice chairman position. Therefore the field is wide open and no one has publicly declared their intention to stand yet.

Secretary:

The former secretary Sue Brookes resigned before Nationals as well, though this position was not originally due for re election this year and therefore it is only a one year position. At present the responsibilities of this position are being shared by the exec, though mainly by Caroline Shearing but she still has a year left to run in her Trustee role and therefore it would seem very unlikely that she would run for the position. Therefore, once again, the field is open and as yet no one has declared themselves in the running! Read a job description for the role..UKPA Secretary

Treasurer:

The former treasurer Jonathan Beckerlegge resigned oficially before Nationals but has continued to help the exec as a volunteer. His position was up for re election this year, therefore it is a two year position, and it was felt unlikely that he would stand again. Again no one has openly declared a interest but it would seem likely that the role might attract one of the accountants that are among the UKPA ranks.

Trustee:

At present this role is held by Julian Smith. The position is for the next two years. It is not known for sure whether Julian intends to run again but he has not openly indicated otherwise. No one else has put their name forwards yet.

Sports Development Officer:

The former sports development officer Gail King resigned in September this year and her post was not originally due for re election this year, therefore it is only for one year. At present the role has been taken over by player's representative Iain Heaton, who was on Gail's sports development commitee. He has now said that he will run for the position full time amd seek a mandate for his views!

Chief Umpire:

This role is presently filled by Martin Brookes and was due for re election this year. He has indicated that he may well not run again and has circulated a job description of the role as he sees it, read it here. Again no one has stated their intention to run but it is quite possible that one of the regional umpires may be tempted to step up to the top job.

Membership Secretary:

This role is currently held by Jan Jenkinson and was always up for re election this year for another two years. She has now stated that she will run for the role again and as yet no one has declared a intention to challenge her. Read a job description for the role..Membership Secretary

Executive Officer:

Jeff Parr was co opted into this role by the exec in early 2007 and therefore the role needs to go up for election this year. It is thought that Jeff will stand for the position and as yet no one else has said that they intend to stand against him.

Player's Representative:

This role is presently filled by Iain Heaton and it was due to be re elected this year. Iain was only elected at the last AGM for one year due to resignations. This time it is a two year position. As noted above Iain is presently acting as sports development officer and has indicated that he might run for that role full time and so may not re stand as player's rep. There is a rumour that Guy Robertson may run for the role.
